UNICEF and IHS Empower 100 Osun Schools with Internet Access and Digital Training

In a bold step toward bridging Nigeria’s digital education gap, UNICEF, in partnership with IHS Nigeria Limited and the Osun State Government, has launched a transformative digital connectivity and literacy initiative across 100 public schools in the state.

The program, unveiled in Ede, Osun State, empowered 200 teachers, principals, and head teachers drawn from both public primary and secondary schools with modern digital literacy training. As part of the intervention, each participating school also received a high-speed internet router with unlimited data access, providing a vital link to digital learning tools.

Speaking at the event, Mr. M. Jimoh, Permanent Secretary of the Osun State Ministry of Education, applauded Governor Ademola Adeleke for his unwavering support of technology-driven education. He emphasized the importance of deploying the newly acquired digital tools to enhance student learning and foster innovation.

Representing IHS Nigeria, the company’s Director of Sustainability, Tolulope Oyenuga, highlighted the initiative’s goal of creating a lasting social impact through digital inclusion. She noted that the program supports access to the Nigeria Learning Passport (NLP) — an e-learning platform curated to boost the quality of education through virtual resources.

The implementation is being carried out with the support of Focus Teens Foundation, ensuring that the infrastructure and training reach even the most underserved parts of the state.
