Record Entry as 2025 Kano International Polo Fiesta Gallops Off September 21

The historic city of Kano is gearing up to host one of Africa’s most glamorous sporting events as the 2025 Kano International Polo Tournament officially kicks off on Sunday, September 21, and will run through to early October.

This year’s edition has already made history with an unprecedented record of 40 participating teams, prompting organisers to bring the start date forward from the earlier schedule of September 24.

In a statement, Captain of Kano Polo Club, Alwan Umar, thanked teams for their flexibility and assured fans that the revised schedule would ensure smooth operations throughout the tournament. The draws for the opening week, featuring the Dangote Cup and MRS Cup, were conducted on September 15 at the Usman Dantata Polo Club in Kano.

Chairman of Kano Polo, Tajudeen Dantata, reaffirmed the committee’s readiness to deliver an unforgettable experience for players, sponsors, and enthusiasts alike.

> “Our love and passion for polo — the oldest team sport in the world — are second to none. This year, we are committed to giving our sponsors, patrons, and thousands of polo fans another memorable experience,” he said.
