Katsina Set to Host First State-Backed World Hausa Day Celebration on August 26

The Katsina State Government is gearing up to join the world in celebrating World Hausa Day on August 26, 2025 — marking the first time the global cultural event will receive full state sponsorship.

The Executive Secretary of the History and Culture Bureau, Dr. Kabir Ali-Masanawa, announced the development during a press briefing in Katsina on Tuesday, noting that the occasion will attract participants from across the globe to honour the history, heritage, and traditions of the Hausa people.

According to him, Governor Dikko Radda has shown personal commitment to ensuring the event’s success, reflecting the administration’s dedication to cultural preservation and promotion.

> “This year, at least 24 countries will join in the celebration. The event will showcase Hausa heritage through music, dance, traditional attire, and a culinary experience that highlights our world-class hospitality,” Ali-Masanawa stated.

The grand celebration will take place at the Emir of Daura’s Palace in Daura, where visitors will enjoy cultural exhibitions and traditional delicacies prepared in true Hausa style.

A Celebration of Global Significance

Malam Abdulbaki Jari, a member of the organising committee, highlighted that Hausa is now the 11th most spoken language in the world, with projections indicating further growth by 2050.

He noted that Hausa communities from the UK, USA, Saudi Arabia, Ghana, and — for the first time — the Netherlands will be represented. Photos and videos from celebrations worldwide will be shared to strengthen cultural unity among the global Hausa community.

> “Tourists travel to Paris or Rome for history; we want them to come to Katsina for Hausa heritage,” Jari emphasised.

The Emir of Daura, Alhaji Faruq Umar-Faruq, will address attendees, reinforcing his long-standing support for preserving and promoting Hausa identity.

A Cultural Tourism Opportunity

Organisers believe the event will not only celebrate tradition but also boost cultural tourism in Katsina, attracting visitors, investors, and the Hausa diaspora.

With music, dance, fashion, and cuisine taking centre stage, the 2025 edition promises to position World Hausa Day as a flagship cultural event on the African calendar.
