Kaduna International Film Festival 2025: Over 2,000 Global Film Entries Received as US, France, Uganda Join Lineup

Preparations are in full swing for the 8th Kaduna International Film Festival (KADIFF), which will run from August 26 to 30, 2025, under the theme “Film for Social Change.” Organizers say the 2025 edition has attracted over 2,000 film submissions from more than 50 countries, including the United States, France, Uganda, India, and other nations with vibrant film industries.

At a world press conference in Kaduna, the festival’s Executive Director, Mr. Audu Kashim Israel, also Vice Chairman of the Nigerian Film Festivals Association, expressed excitement over the increased international participation.

> “Film is a powerful tool for civic engagement and social transformation,” he said. “We believe filmmakers have a responsibility to spark conversations that inspire change.”

From the thousands of submissions, 168 films have been shortlisted by a nine-member jury panel. Uganda leads in the number of entries for the third consecutive year, with strong representation from Nigeria, Kenya, Russia, Finland, Tunisia, Cameroon, and Zambia.

Beyond Screenings: Youth Empowerment, Tourism, and Cultural Exchange

KADIFF 2025 is introducing a youth-focused skills acquisition initiative that will train 200 young people in various trades such as pizza making, yoghurt production, custard preparation, paint mixing, and palm oil processing. Participants will also receive starter kits to help launch their small businesses.

Additionally, a short film contest sponsored by Lipton Nigeria is inviting entries that explore family stories around breakfast. The top entries (no longer than 10 minutes) will be showcased at the festival’s closing ceremony.

Mr. Israel praised Governor Uba Sani and the Kaduna State Government for their unwavering support. He also called on public and private organizations to invest in the creative sector through festivals like KADIFF, which promote tourism, cultural exchange, and international collaborations.
