2025 OJUDE OBA FESTIVAL: EXPOSING YORUBA CULTURE TO THE WORLD

The 2025 Ojude Oba Festival in Ijebu-Ode, Ogun State, was a vibrant celebration of Yoruba culture, marked by colorful displays of traditional attire, equestrian parades, and communal festivities.

The Awujale of Ijebuland, Oba Sikiru Kayode Adetona, was absent from this year's event, and despite the monarch's absence, the festival proceeded with grandeur, drawing thousands of participants, including dignitaries, tourists, and members of the Ijebu diaspora.

Though the 91-year old monarch was represented by his wife, Olori Kemi Adetona, but it was reliably gathered that the highly revered monarch was absent due to old age.

The annual cultural celebration which hold three days after the celebration of Eid-del-Kabir provide opportunity for the people of Ijebu land, who are usually dressed in various beautiful attires to pay homage to the Awujale and paramount ruler of Ijebu land, Oba Sikiru Adetona.

The festival, themed "Ojude Oba: Unity and Harmony, Our Gift," showcased the unity and resilience of the Ijebu people, also serves as a testament to Nigeria's diverse cultural landscape and its potential as a driver for national development and international recognition.

Over 100 age-grade groups, known as *Regberegbes*, adorned in vibrant traditional attire, paraded to pay homage to the Awujale.

Equestrian displays by warrior families added to the spectacle, captivating attendees and reinforcing the festival's cultural significance.

The 2025 Ojude Oba Festival not only celebrated the rich traditions of the Ijebu people but also highlighted the potential of cultural events in driving national unity and economic diversification.
